Material Origins
The opening map is source geography, not a map of contamination events. It displays only release-eligible locations supported by direct source relationships and distinguishes direct source records from qualified attribution.
USGS Bulletin 1082-K identifies historical talc quarries at Dublin, Maryland, and Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, as sites that produced some asbestos as a byproduct. USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2024 identifies Pakistan, Canada, and China as reported U.S. talc and pyrophyllite import sources for 2019–2022 and describes a qualified Afghanistan-to-Pakistan supply-chain relationship.
Product Testing
The Product Testing lens represents the scope of public federal testing records, not laboratory locations or a map of individual product-contamination events. FDA published survey assignments spanning FY2019 through FY2023. The first-release evidence rail identifies method limits, testing-record boundaries, and direct source links.
Scientific and Regulatory Timeline
The dated timeline includes USGS geological context, FDA survey and testing-method records, IARC Volume 136, Federal Register rulemaking, and direct corporate or court records where applicable. Each entry states what its source establishes and what it does not establish.
Sources and Download
The visible source register links to USGS, FDA, Federal Register, IARC, and SEC records used in this prototype. The first-release dataset contains 155 release-gated evidence items as CSV and JSON-LD. Editorial HOLD claims and retraction-only records are excluded from affirmative evidence output.
How to Read the Atlas
Material origins are only one evidence track. The Atlas separately examines product testing, scientific and regulatory records, and public proceedings. Each item carries its source, scope boundary, and publication status. Held records are not displayed as public map points.
